    • If this request involves new undergraduate courses,a new course form must have been completed and the course approved, or in the process of being approved, before moving forward with program change. If the course has not made it to Academic Affairs by the time the program does, the program cannot move forward.

  • Description

This interdisciplinary minor allows students to develop a regional area specialization that emphasizes knowledge of European language, history, society, culture, and politics. The minor affords students the opportunity for greater focus on Europe, while familiarizing them with multiple disciplinary approaches to the study of the region. This minor enhances student  preparation for careers in government service, business, international organizations, teaching, and a wide range of other professions.

    Student Learning Outcomes

    • Students apply foreign language skills in culturally appropriate contexts.
    • Students analyze historical trajectories that have led to current European political, social, and cultural practices and structures.
    • Students examine aspects of European political systems in comparative perspective.
    • Students explore different disciplinary approaches to the study of Europe as a region.
The program description is the information displayed in the catalog.

  • Curriculum*
Justification for Request
  • What research has led to this request?*

Two semesters of data on course substitutions required for students to complete the minor. The low percentage of students who take 200-level language courses seems to be a barrier to students enrolling in the minor, so that requirement was adjusted.

  • What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?*

These changes should make the minor easier for students to complete.

  • What financial costs are associated with this request?*

    None.

  • If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?*

Courses are already being offered by existing faculty.
